Kurt "Crowbar" Kangas has taken over the reins of the Bay Area's Artista Gang.
The Artista Gang was created by renowned artists Alton Kelley, Pat Ryan, and David Sheridan back in the late 70s. The thinking back then was to create a gang of artists and their friends. Throw unbelievable parties. And, what a great way to meet women... what? Way before the whole "Me Too" thing kicked in, at the height of what historians referred to as the sexual revolution/liberation era, the Artista threw some incredible parties. Yep, we're to blame (not really). But, interesting times...and the Artista Gang lives on.
Just some of the names of some of the Artista's members included Journey, the Grateful Dead, Norton Buffalo, Jerry Garcia (Kelley was an Artist for the Dead), Huey Lewis, Steve Miller Band, and just too many other celebs to include here.

Saunders was born in 1955 in San Francisco to a musical family.[1] His keyboardist father, Merl Saunders, got him started at an early age. He began singing at the age of five and played piano from age eight. Herbie Hancock and Sly Stone were among Saunders’ early teachers. Stone gave Saunders an organ at the age of ten. At age fourteen he began playing the bass. While growing up he was exposed to musicians including Eddie Moore, Jimmy Smith, Stanley Turrentine, Sonny Rollins, Dewey Redmen, George Duke, Al Jarreau, Bole Sete, and John Handy.
Saunders received one of his first piano lessons from Herbie Hancock. He was awarded a fellowship at the prestigious San Francisco Conservatory of Music for piano.[2] His first Fender bass guitar was a gift from Tom Fogerty, brother of John Fogerty and rhythm guitarist for Creedence Clearwater Revival. He graduated from the Conservatory of Music in San Francisco. He received an Emmy at 14 years old with his father for the children's special Soul Is, a PBS documentary featuring Black poetry accompanied by Saunders on the bass. The second Emmy was for an Episode of Digital Journey titled "China The Digital Economy" Source: Wikipedia

In the mid-eighties, I did standup as a comedy duo that introduced me to the world of stand-up comedy in San Francisco. Before embarking on going it alone I took some acting classes at College of Marin while bartending at the Punch Line in San Francisco. This is one of my earlier performances and it's a little rough, ok it's really rough, but I had a good time going up in front of multiple cameras and an audience.

Mark pays homage to the Borscht Belt comedians. The Borscht Belt had been a cradle of American Jewish comedy since the 1920s and the Borscht Belt entertainment circuit helped launch the careers of many famous comedians including Woody Allen Rodney Dangerfield Phyllis Diller Milton Berle Lenny Bruce George Burns Buddy Hackett Danny Kaye Jerry Lewis Carl Reiner Henny Youngman Don Rickles Joan Rivers and Jonathan Winters just to name a few…
THE BORSCHT BELT MUSEUM * BorschtBeltMuseum.org The Borscht Belt Museum's home is at 90 Canal Street, in Ellenville, N.Y. The museum building is a glorious Neo-Georgian gem built in 1928 for the Home National Bank.
For more than a half-century, the bank helped nurture hundreds of local hoteliers and bungalow colony owners whose ambitions, grit, and self-sacrifice defined the resort era. The Borscht Belt Museum will illuminate and celebrate the golden age of the Catskills resort era, when millions of urban dwellers sought refuge in the mountains of upstate New York, leaving deep imprints on mainstream American culture, from stand-up comedy and comfort food to mid-century modern design and popular concepts of leisure.
The permanent museum will open in 2025.
